2. Using the LM41 LinkView Software [Contents]

This section describes how to use the LM41 LinkView with a LM41.

Start the LM41 LinkView software from the location where it was installed (by default it appears under the Programs menu of the Start button).

Uploading from a LM41[Contents]

When you first run LM41 LinkView, you should nominate which communications port (COM port) the LM41 is connected to. By default the LM41 LinkView assumes you are connected to COM1. The baud rate and other communication parameters are configured automatically by the software and cannot be changed.

Configuring the COM port for LM41 [Contents]

      1. Make sure a LM41 is connected and switched ON.
      2. Click on the Upload menu item (not the toolbar). The following dialog box appears:

      3. Choose the COM port that the LM41 is connected to.
      4. Click the Upload button. The dialog box should expand to show a progress indicator and the serial number of the connected LM41:

      5. During the upload, the LM41 LCD display should show the message "LM41 PC Link" together with a progress indicator.
      6. When the upload is complete, the dialog box disappears and the new data is displayed by the LM41 LinkView Software.

The LM41 LinkView Interface [Contents]

The LM41 LinkView interface is partitioned into 4 sections:
Navigation around the interface is by the TAB key (toggles between Records and Table lists) and cursor keys. When an item in the Table list is selected the corresponding point in the graph is highlighted. Simultaneously pressing the ALT key and the underlined letter of a menu item will invoke that command. Of course a mouse can also be used in the normal manner. Toolbar buttons are only accessed with a mouse

The File System [Contents]

All records uploaded from the LM41 are stored in a file corresponding to the month when they were recorded and the serial number of the LM41. For example, a record stored in an LM41 on the 14th May 1999, with a serial number of 00015, will be stored in the file "May99-00015.dta" together with other records recorded in May 1999 from that LM41. The most recent records are stored in the file "LM-UPLOAD.dta" and displayed automatically following an upload from the LM41.

All files are stored in the directory "LM41Data" which appears under the directory from where the application LM41LinkView is started

Files menu [Contents]

Click on the Files menu item to bring up the following sub-menu:

The LM41 LinkView is used to evaluate data obtained by the LM41. Typically the data retrieved from a LM41 should not be modified. The files are saved automatically as discussed above. Hence there is no Save command, but individual records may be deleted.

Opening files[Contents]

All LM41 LinkView data files are saved with a *.dta extension.

An existing file can be opened and viewed by selecting the Open… command or the toolbar button.

Saving Details and Graph[Contents]

The Details and Graph sections of the current displayed record may also be saved as bitmaps to disk via the menu commands Save Details as… and Save Graph as…

Deleting Records[Contents]

Individual records in files can be deleted via the menu command Delete Records or the toolbar button.

Printing[Contents]

Before printing from the LM41 LinkView, it is advisable to first select the Print Setup command to correctly configure the output and the destination printer. The LM41 Linkview produces a predefined Test Report for each record selected. The test report can be individually customised with a company logo and relevant test details. The Print Preview command can give a representative view of the output before printing. See the sections on Print Setup and Preview later on in this document.

When you are satisfied with the format and destination of the output, select the Print command to send the job to the nominated printer. The toolbar button can also be used to send the job to the printer.

Calibration Info [Contents]

To view the current calibration settings held in EEPROM of the LM41 select the Calibration Info command.

Edit menu[Contents]

Click on the Edit menu item to bring up the following sub-menu:

Using the Clipboard[Contents]

Each of the four sections of the interface (Records, Details, Graph and Table) can be individually copied to the clipboard using the toolbar buttons or via the menu commands Copy Graph etc.

Once in the clipboard, the contents can be pasted into any other application to allow customised reporting of results in different formats.
